As many now know, the NBA salary cap is set to skyrocket after the conclusion of the 2015-2016 NBA season. With DeAndre Jordan set to become a free agent at this season’s conclusion, before the major spike in cap space, the length of the contract Jordan would be seeking was at question.
Following from Arash Markazi of ESPN.
“I’m not going to be greedy and sign a one-year deal,” Jordan said. “Nah. I’m just focused on getting it over with and focusing on playing again. I’m just trying to win here.”
If he chose to sign a one-year contract with the Clippers, and then sign a max contract in 2016, Jordan would receive $164,231,415 over the next six season. With Jordan likely to sign a max deal with the Clippers at the end of this season, he will make $109,409,850 over the duration of a five-year deal.
Hearing this unselfishness exactly what you want from a player who is likely to receive a lucrative contract that cold very possibly be the max, or be very close to a max deal. Jordan appears to have matured a lot from his rookie season, and is now a player the Clippers can look to center their future around.
