Los Angeles Clippers star center DeAndre Jordan may stay put but he still plans on seeing what’s out there on the free agency market for him. According to Broderick Turner of the LA Times, Jordan has narrowed his list of visits down to five teams including the Clippers, Lakers, Mavericks, Knicks, and Bucks. The high flying big man is an unrestricted free agent this summer and will have teams throwing him money nearing max deal territory.
Clips coach Doc Rivers has already stated he’ll offer Jordan a five year max deal. However, after the Clippers were bounced by the Houston Rockets in the playoffs, there was a report that Jordan and superstar point guard Chris Paul had beef. This rift could play a role in him deciding whether to stay or leave Los Angeles. Jordan’s role was monumental for them this year and he has budded into one of the brightest young stars in the league. He led the league in rebounding and field goal percentage along with earning All-NBA Third Team honors. It’s his impact on both ends of the floor that has made him so vital to the Clippers success over the past few years.
The Dallas Mavericks have perhaps the strongest pitch out of all potential suitors. Deandre Jordan would have the opportunity to play alongside sharp shooting Dirk Nowitzki in the front court. Not only that but he is reportedly close friends with forward Chandler Parsons and the two have been hanging out frequently. The Mavs are already contenders and adding Jordan to the roster could push them over the edge.
The Los Angeles Lakers also have a decent shot at landing the star center. The Lakers have always had a long lineage of historic big men and Jordan could be next in line. However playing with fiery Kobe Bryant could be a negative due to his leadership similarities with Chris Paul who Jordan didn’t always get along with. The Knicks pretty much go after every big name free agent so it doesn’t come as a surprise that Jordan has a visit planned with them. Milwaukee is building on youth and length, both two qualities that Jordan possesses. Whatever team the sky scraping big man decides to join this summer will enjoy a significant upgrade to their roster.
