Los Angeles Clippers’ star center DeAndre Jordan idolized Dirk Nowitzki when he was young. From growing up in Texas to wearing his jersey number (41) in high school, DeAndre always admired his game. Although DeAndre showed deep admiration for Dirk, it’s pretty ironic considering how they’re polar opposites on the court (aside from their similarity in height).
“I’m gonna be the black Dirk.”
DeAndre’s immense respect for Dirk could’ve been one of the reasons that he seriously considered signing with the Dallas Mavericks in 2015 free agency. Now he remains a Clipper while ultimately disliked by the organization which he watched so much as a kid. His initial plans for departure were rumored to be caused by his star teammate Chris Paul due to their past issues off the court. Their problems were resolved however when DeAndre resigned with Los Angeles in the hope of winning a championship.
DeAndre Jordan posted a video on The Players’ Tribune last Thursday on his feelings towards the face of the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise, Dirk Nowitzki.
