The point guard position is currently one of, if not, the deepest positions in the NBA today and this year’s upcoming draft class will only add to the talent. While many expect Markelle Fultz of Washington or Lonzo Ball of UCLA to be the cream of the crop in this year’s point guard class, De’Aaron Fox has just as good a shot as anyone to make a serious immediate impact.
Next in line on the long list of great Kentucky point guards, Fox has everything NBA scouts love to see out of young prospects from a winning resume to savvy defensive prowess.
In fact, in a recent interview with Adam Caparell of Complex, Fox went as far to call himself the best player in this year’s draft:
“I feel like I’m the best player in this draft no matter what,” says Fox…
“In college, I got to the basket whenever I wanted. I felt like I created better. Defensively, I feel like that really separated me,” says Fox.
There is no shortage of confidence in the 6’3″ De’Aaron Fox and that’s exactly what many NBA executives want out of their team leader. With his elite athleticism and ability to push the tempo, Fox could really improve an NBA roster next season.
Fox not only has the talent, but he knows how to get it done in big games, carrying his Kentucky Wildcats to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament after defeating UCLA and outplaying top prospect Lonzo Ball. The 19-year-old freshman produced solid per game averages of 16.7 points and 4.9 assists alongside another expected lottery pick, Malik Monk, in the UK backcourt.
Fox is considered one of the most enticing prospects due to his intangibles and if he were able to add a consistent outside jumper to his already dangerous arsenal, the sky is the limit for him at the next level.
