Head Coach Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have picked up the commitment of Marquette Golden Eagle’s forward Dawson Garcia. The forward initially entered the transfer portal while testing the waters in the 2021 NBA Draft. He has since withdrawn his name from the draft and will play basketball next year in Chapel Hill. Garcia picked the Tar Heels over returning to the Marquette Golden Eagles, the Arizona Wildcats, and the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Marquette transfer Dawson Garcia told @Stadium he is headed to Chapel Hill and will play for UNC this season.
HUGE pickup for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels.

Dawson Garcia originally considered North Carolina when coming out of high school, but he ultimately decided to play for the Marquette Golden Eagles. New North Carolina Head Coach is seemingly running a pro-style basketball scheme with the Tar Heels next season. Garcia is a perfect fit and this will help him showcase his talents for the next level of basketball. It is likely he decides to enter the 2022 NBA Draft after next season. Hubert Davis has a very talented roster for his first season as the Head Coach.
As a freshman, Dawson Garcia averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 48 percent and a three-point percentage of 35.6 percent. The rising sophomore should slot right into a starting role next to a returning Armando Bacot. This is a talented team that Head Coach Hubert Davis has fielded just months after the announcement he would be taking over for now-retired Head Coach Roy Williams. Garcia and North Carolina should be a good match heading into the next season of college basketball.
