So it’s safe to say that David West is not feeling Indiana anymore. He had a decent run there, but with Paul George and everything else, he can feel father time pressing down on him and I guess he felt a sense of urgency when it came to where he is going to play for the rest of his career. It might take Indiana a year or two to get back to where they were, being a Finals contender. And West is too old to wait around. He senses that.
So it’s no surprise that as a free agent, he wants to play for a championship quality team, according to USA TODAY Sports, those teams are the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.
According to a person with knowledge of his situation, the free agent forward who declined a $12.2 million player option to stay with the Indiana Pacers next season, has serious interest in playing for the San Antonio Spurs or the Golden State Warriors. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the free agency process.
“At this point in my career, it’s all about winning,” West said. “And again, I don’t want to be in a position where we’re just fighting to make the playoffs, I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the finals.“
That quote pretty much says it all. He’s a man who wants to taste the pageantry that is the NBA Finals, it’s always evaded him and I think those two teams could totally utilise him.
