The San Antonio Spurs have been a historically good team this season, and 35-year-old David West has enjoyed the ride. West joined the Spurs because he wanted to win, and he’s gotten his wish. The Spurs are 63-12 with 7 games remaining.
From Jabari Young of MySanAntonio:
“It’s crazy,” said West. “But that’s what happens when you’re winning – the year just goes. It’s already April.”
West, who has never won a championship, has a great shot at earning one this season. Will he return next season though? That remains to be determined:
Asked if he’s made a decision, or even thought about it, West followed (Tim) Duncan’s formula – he’ll wait and listen.
“I have no idea,” West told the Express-News. “I really just want to see what my body tells me when it’s all said and done. I think that’s the best way to put it. My body will tell me what to do and what direction I should go. … You (have) got to have the energy and the will to want to get after it again.”
In his 13th NBA season, West has taken a reduced role, averaging 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game.
When he plays, West has been very efficient; he has shot a career-high 55% from the field this season.
