David West is a vocal person and a veteran on the Indiana Pacers. Many relate his contributions to why the Pacers are afloat right now and still fighting for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference, without star guard Paul George. David West and his leadership have carried the Pacers.
Being a veteran, and having veteran leadership is a very important aspect of winning games in the NBA. Rarely will you ever see a young team win games without a veteran on there. David West completely agrees with that statement. Earlier today, Brian Shaw was fired by the Denver Nuggets. David West, wasn’t too happy about that.
According to Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports:
Pacers were in practice when news of B-Shaw being fired came out. All very aware of the news, guys that were here with him were upset.
David West on Brian Shaw being fired: “That’s bullsh-t. No grownups on the roster. You can’t win without grownups.”
Harsh words from David West, but he is right. You won’t see a team thats young and winning without a veteran presence. I can think of the Raptors, Trailblazers, and the Thunder as teams that are winning with young cores but still have veteran leadership.
