Veteran NBA forward David Lee has decided to retire after spending over one decade in the league, he announced on social media Sunday morning.
Lee spent 12 seasons in the NBA, suiting up for the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.
He averaged 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds for his career, appearing in 829 total games. His best years came when he was a member of the New York Knicks. During the 2009-10 season, he averaged roughly 21 points and 12 rebounds per game in 81 contests.
Lee was named an All-Star during two seasons and won an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015. His final NBA campaign came this past season with the Spurs, and he registered some free-agent interest on the open market in July. The Spurs decided not to re-sign him and focused their attention on bringing in other players.
Lee, 34, was a dominant post-scoring, rebounding power forward who was capable of making the defense pay from 15-to-20 feet. He made 505 career starts and was drafted 30th by the New York Knicks in 2005.
