The Houston Rockets did not finish off their season well this year, despite making it to the Western Conference Finals just a year before that. This year, they lost in the 1st round to the same team and the reasons were the fact that the team could never gel throughout the season. After Head Coach Kevin McHale was fired, the relationships in the locker room begun to dwindle, including the relationship of stars Dwight Howard and James Harden. Howard and Harden weren’t able to lead, and now with Howard as a free agent, the possibilities are endless for who Houston has to sign.
The Rockets GM Daryl Morey is already on the look for another superstar player to add to his roster, he spoke with Sirius XM NBA Radio, on the state of the Rockets:
The Rockets will be a much different team under newly hired Head Coach Mike D’Antoni. Known for his free offense, where it’s basically shoot at will, the Rockets will be looking to push the momentum. Everyday it’s looking less and less likely that Dwight Howard will return to this team. Many teams have expressed their interest for the one time all-star center, including his former team the Orlando Magic. The Rockets will be able to jump into the conversation on basically any free agent with the money that they have to offer, being able to potentially sign someone to a max deal or close to it.
So if Dwight doesn’t decide to re-sign, the Rockets would have to sign one of the illustrious big man in the free market this offseason. Some interesting fits for the Rockets would be free agents like Ryan Anderson, Pau Gasol or even Al Horford. All players can stretch the floor for a player like Harden who needs the spacing to put work his in. A player like Dwight crowds the lane too much for Harden, and maybe a stretch big man is what they should be looking for.
