After playing seven seasons with the Oakland Raiders, runningback Darren McFadden said he feels like the move to Dallas could rejuvenate his NFL career.
“It’s great to be in Dallas,” McFadden said Saturday at a football camp at Little Rock Air Force Base, per the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “I’m looking forward to getting on the field with those guys and doing great things this year. … Definitely exciting. I tell everybody I feel like a rookie all over again.
“I just want to go out there, stay healthy and run the ball the way I know I can run the ball.”
McFadden was widely disappointing during his Oakland tenure. McFadden came in with crazy expectations after being selected fourth overall in 2008. The Cowboys hope that ‘Run DMC’ can capture his full potential running behind a much better offensive line, combined with the presence of a veteran quarterback.
Joseph Randle is the main threat to his starting job as he has shown flashed playing second fiddle to DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys also have Lance Dunbar, Ryan Williams and Lache Seastrunk in the backfield. McFadden will not be handed the job as Dallas knows they posses a capable group.
“I’m just going out there and making plays,” McFadden said. “Right now, we don’t know much. We just know we’re competing for a job.
“I’m with a lot of younger backs now. My thing is, I just try to give those guys some of the knowledge I know from being around the league seven, eight years now. Those guys are great athletes and great players. I look forward to being back there beside them.”
In all I believe McFadden has the making for a breakout campaign in 2015. The former Arkansas alum could also be some sort of a fantasy sleeper given the lack of runningbacks that pan out year to year. McFadden could be worth the risk given his cap friendly one year deal which was signed this past off-season.
