Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison has been arrested in Placer County, California on a domestic violence charge. From CBS Sacramento:
Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison was arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Collison, 28, was booked into Placer County Jail on one count of inflicting corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant and a bench warrant of driving while his license was revoked.
…
The Sacramento Kings issued a statement on the arrest:
“We’ve been made aware of the situation. The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps.”
Collison played 74 games for the Kings this season, coming off the bench for Rajon Rondo. In 30 minutes per game, Collison averaged 14 points, 4.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and one steal, while shooting 48.6% from the field, 40.1% from three-point range, and 85.8% from the free throw line. That is tremendous efficiency; Collison’s field goal and three-point percentages both marked career-highs for the guard.
With Rajon Rondo a free agent this summer, there is a good chance that Collison could be handed the reigns to the offense as starting point guard this summer. This charge of domestic violence does not help the point guards case, though. This is not a good look for Collison.
