Sacramento guard Darren Collison is now facing a pair of domestic violence charges.
After originally being charged with domestic violence last month, Collison now appears to be dealing with two counts of the violence: One count of domestic violence causing injury, the other from domestic battery of a spouse. On the night of the incident, officers found a woman visibly injured in a California home. Collison, 28, was then booked into Placer County Jail.
Other details of the incident have yet to be released, but as time moves forward the full story of what occurred on May 30th will likely begin to unravel.
The Kings released the following statement on the incident:
“We’ve been made aware of the situation. The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps.”
Darren Collison is due to appear back in court on July 11th and could face up to one year in prison, according to ESPN.
The last player to face a serious count of domestic violence, Jeffery Taylor, was suspended 24 games. It’s unclear whether the Kings will punish Darren Collison yet.
For Collison, this incident couldn’t occur at a worse time. After coming off a stellar season that saw him average 14 points on an efficient 48% from the field and 40% from deep, Collison now harms his chances at becoming the team’s next starting point guard. With Rajon Rondo drawing interest from other NBA teams ahead of free agency, Collison’s chance to shine is now.
This incident is a serious hurdle in the road for Darren Collison.
