The debut season of Marvel’s Daredevil was a pleasant success for Netflix this year, and now we prepare for a transitional progression for the show’s second season. Part of that progression is drawing from more characters in the traditional Daredevil story. One of those characters will be Elektra, and as confirmed by Variety, 34-year-old French-Cambodian actress Elodie Yung has been casted for the part.
“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
Yung will play the female ninja assassin who was prevalent in the 2003 Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck, and the central focus of the 2005 Elektra spinoff. Jennifer Garner played Elektra in both installments. Elektra’s casting description for season two of Daredevil embodies her as, “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”
Yung is best known for her roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Daredevil returns to Netflix for season two in 2016.
