Less than an hour into the first day of rookie minicamp Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Dante Fowler Jr tore his ACL. Fowler was injured during 11 on 11 drills when his knee buckled. Offensive tackle Watts Dantzler explained what happened during the freak accident.
“I really honestly have no idea,” Dantzler said. “I was just kicking, got a punch on his shoulder, and he just went down. I don’t really know exactly what happened. I feel terrible about it.”
“I went to apologize to him (Fowler) and he was like, ‘You’re good, man. It’s just football,'”
The loss of Fowler is a huge loss for the Jaguars as head coach Gus Bradley envisioned him to be the team’s Leo linebacker following in the footsteps of Bruce Irvin of Seattle. General Manager David Caldwell summed it up with one word.
Brutal
Fowler has not yet signed his rookie contract but his deal should be worth approximately $23 million, fully guaranteed, over four years while also including a fifth-year team option. The Jaguars passed up on a chance to draft Amari Cooper and Leonard Williams, a decision the team may be beginning to regret.
