Danny Green has always had a reputation as a sharpshooter, and he put his mark on Spurs history Sunday night when he drilled a 3-pointer early in the 4th quarter vs. the Phoenix Suns – his 191st 3 of the season. With this shot Green broke Chuck Person’s single-season franchise record of 190 threes made in a season.
Green talked about the accomplishment with Mysanantonio.com’s Dan McCarney after the game, saying:
“I wasn’t aware that I did it until after the game and people said congratulations, congratulations,” Green said. “They brought it to my attention before I did the TV interview. It’s a big accomplishment. It’s humbling to be up there with those guys who did anything in history with the Spurs. They had great groups the last 17, 18 years. They’ve been very successful. To be in the top of anything here is a big accomplishment.”
This achievement is especially impressive because Person actually set the former record in the 1995-96 season; a season in which the league was experimenting with a shorter 3-point line.
Danny Green also holds the NBA record for most 3-pointers made in a playoff series, with 27 threes made against the Miami Heat in the 2013 NBA finals. What’s more, Green made those 27 threes at an incredibly efficient 55.1% clip.
Green is extremely accurate from deep, and has been a huge part of the Spurs success over the years. He will go down as a historically significant shooter.
