When next season starts, wide receiver Danny Amendola will be playing for his fourth different NFL team. If reports are accurate, that fourth team will be the Detroit Lions.
The #Lions plan to sign former #Patriots and #Dolphins WR Danny Amendola to a 1-year deal that includes $4.5M guaranteed base, source said. With incentives, that can bring him to $5.75M. Great addition to the locker room.

Amendola started with the Rams, then in St. Louis, before enjoying his most successful years in New England with the Patriots. Last season, Amendola played for the Miami Dolphins. It was originally a two-year contract with the Dolphins, but the 33-year-old wideout was released by Miami. Amendola put up 59 receptions for 575 yards and one touchdown.
The most obvious angle here is that the signing reunites with former Pats coordinator Matt Patricia, who is now the Lions’ head coach. Although Patricia is a defensive-minded coach and Amendola an offensive player, one would assume the prior relationship between player and coach probably played a huge role in the signing.
For most of his career, Amendola has been really good when healthy. But he has had a reputation of being someone who has trouble staying healthy and on the field.
For his career, Amendola has made 485 catches for 4,684 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s also returned 185 punts for 1,766 yards as well as 152 kick returns for 3,575 yards.
