The Boston Celtics are not just a Playoff calibre team. They’re a Playoff calibre team with EIGHT Draft Picks in the upcoming NBA Draft. Three are in the first round. Thats a good number for an NFL Draft, and they have 7 rounds. The NBA Draft is only two! The Celtics are stacking on picks and have all the leverage if somebody wants to trade their way into the Draft. Thank Danny Ainge for that Celtics fans.
But it’s not just the Draft, oh no. Danny Ainge plans to make moves in the free agency market as well. He wants to have his fingers in as many pies as possible.
“We look forward to every offseason. This offseason is bigger,” Ainge said. “My expectations are high this offseason and yet I also know that it takes good fortune.”
“We need the ping pong balls to bounce our way to give us the best opportunity, whether we use that pick or whether we trade that pick,” Ainge said. “And in free agency we have opportunities. That’s all we have. We have no guarantees of great things happening. We just have a lot of hope.”
“I don’t think we’ve ever had cap space. So this is a unique opportunity,” Ainge said. “We have to be patient, too. There’s a lot of money around the league. A lot of teams have cap space with the new TV contracts kicking in.”
This is like when you’re playing GM on NBA2K and you force people to trade Draft picks. But it’s amazing how Danny Ainge got the Celtics in probably the best position any NBA team is in for the future.
But the job isn’t over, he still needs to pick the right players and make the right deals.
