Gordon Hayward is a free agent this offseason and there is a plethora of teams wanting to add the versatile wing. One of those teams is the front running Boston Celtics, unfortunately, there appears to be some family disagreements about where Hayward should land.
According to Chris Forsberg of ESPN, Danny Ainge’s son, who is currently running for Congress in Utah, has been advocate for the “keep Hayward in Utah” group.
Gordon Hayward’s impending free agency has caused a public tug-of-war in the Ainge family. The Heat will get the first crack at luring Gordon Hayward away in free agency on Saturday, a source told ESPN. Hayward also plans to meet with the Celtics and the Jazz, sources said.
As the Boston Celtics and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge await their chance to make a pitch to Hayward after free agency begins Saturday, Ainge’s son Tanner, who is running for Congress in Utah, has repeatedly expressed a desire for Hayward to stay with the Jazz.
Late Wednesday night, Tanner Ainge tweeted at Hayward with a link to a news story about how Massachusetts is considering a “millionaire’s tax” that could eventually elevate the tax burden for high-earners.
Tanner Ainge’s pleas may not actually move the needle when it comes to Hayward’s free agent decisions but it may in his campaign, so I am sure his dad isn’t all that upset.
