Honesty is the best policy in life and in music.
Washington, D.C. native Danni Baylor is honest, bold, and purely herself on her debut EP, Things About The World That Burden Me. The seven-track, alt-R&B project takes a deep dive into the ills of social media, overstimulation, isolation, and the never-ending mission of finding pockets of peace in a place of chaos. The messages Baylor shares through her intricate writing are only solidified further with her vocal delivery. At times, the relaxed, conversational nature with which Baylor sings can make a listener feel as if they’re sitting in her room listeneing to her vent, reflect, and search for happiness.
“Things About the World That Burden Me is me putting my thoughts and heart on record. I’ve always been the kind of person who feels the weight of what’s happening around me,” Baylor said. “These songs are my way of naming those burdens and finding the light inside them. Every track is a snapshot of how I see the world right now, but also how I choose to move through it — with honesty, warmth, and faith.”
As it is often said, there’s something in the water, especially in the District of Columbia. From Ari Lennox to Alex Vaughn, the nation’s capital has had no trouble finding and developing talent. Right now, it’s looking like Danni Baylor is next up.
