The Denver Nuggets and forward Danilo Gallinari are on the brink of agreeing to a two year contract extension worth $34M. Gallinari was slated to make $11.5M next year but the contract will add $2.5M next season bringing the total to $14M. The deal was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari is finalizing an agreement on a two-year extension worth an additional $34 million on his contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The deal is a restructuring that includes a $2.5 million increase on the $11.5 million owed to Gallinari as he enters the final year of his contract in 2015-16, sources said.
Gallinari will make $14M next year, $15M the year after and will finally get $16M in his final year under contract. While only 26, injuries have substantially limited Gallinari’s potential, most notably a torn ACL. When fully healthy, he is one of the better offensive minded forwards in the league. We’ve seen how explosive he can be as he erupted for a career high 47 points just last season against the Dallas Mavericks. Denver also re-signed forwards Wilson Chandler last week and Kenneth Faried last offseason. After the departure of point guard Ty Lawson, those three along with lottery draft pick Emmanuel Mudiay look to build Denver’s core moving forward.
