Theis, 25, is in his first NBA season with the Boston Celtics after going undrafted in 2013. He has plenty of overseas experience, however, having played professional basketball since 2009.
Theis was a pleasant surprise for the Celtics this year, averaging 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in just 14.9 minutes per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and 31 percent from 3-point range. Theis helped out with a little bit of everything for the Celtics, from rim protection to ball movement to knocking down open jump shots.
Despite his low minutes-per-game mark, Theis was an important piece for the Celtics, and his absence will be felt.
The Celtics are feeling the injury bug heavily right now; Jaylen Brown is in concussion protocol after a nasty fall on his head and neck.
Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving has been dealing with knee soreness, and the Celtics are still missing Gordon Hayward.
With Theis out, expect Greg Monroe to play a larger bench role for the Celtics. Other candidates for increased minutes include Semi Ojeleye and Guerschon Yabusele.
