Heading into a November 2020 showdown with Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois was poised to challenge heavyweight champions like Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Then, things took a turn for the worse when Joe Joyce continued to land his jab against Dubois and stopped the heavyweight contender in the tenth round.
In the aftermath of his first professional loss, Dubois went back to the drawing board. He elected to bring accomplished trainer Shane McGuigan into the fold. After working with McGuigan for six months, Dubois felt he was ready to get back in the ring.
In a bounce-back fight, Dubois shared the ring with Romania’s Bogdan Dinu. During the opening moments of his return, Dubois found success by using his job to set up bigger combinations. From there, Dubois was able to land a short hand that put Dinu down for the count. With a second-round knockout, Dubois brings home the WBA interim heavyweight title. This is a great step in the right direction, but Dubois would like to keep ascending in the division.
“I want to get back in the mix,” Dubois said.
“We’re gonna get there, man. I need to keep listening to what Shane tells me and be the best I can be.”
Daniel Dubois back in business as he KOs Bogdan Dinu inside two rounds. Big right hand flattened the Romanian. Dubois now has the WBA 'interim' trinket and is mandatory for the WBA 'regular' belt, currently held by Trevor Bryan.
