Daniel Dubois was not awestruck by the bright lights during his first title shot. As many expected, Dubois’ power proved to be the difference in his latest showdown with Trevor Bryan. The Greenwich native put Bryan down for the count in the fourth round as he captured the WBA’s “regular” heavyweight crown.
“This is what I dreamed of as a little kid, and now finally making it happen… it’s about time,” Dubois told BT Sport.
“I’ve got to thank Don King for this great opportunity, and everyone that made this happen. Just amazing.”
Having captured the WBA “Regular” Heavyweight Championship, Dubois has become the mandatory challenger for the winner of this summer’s showdown between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. However, reports suggest that Tyson Fury may come out of his brief retirement to fight the winner. For the time being, Dubois has sights set on a few other top heavyweights.
“I am ready for whoever is next. I believe this will instantly make me a better fighter now. When you win the world title they say you become next level so names like Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker are all on my hitlist,” Bryan told the crowd after the fight.
“I will fight whoever Frank puts me in with next. It has been amazing. Coming out here and winning a world title is what I dreamed of as a little kid and now it has finally happened.”
