I love this hometown complex we have formed in recent years. That thing where we look at free agents and link their hometown as if mentioning where they were born just might sway their decision as to where they’ll go.
This began with LeBron James “returning home” and then the complex amusingly came back again with Kevin Durant. I mean seriously who genuinely thought the Washington Wizards had a chance of getting Kevin Durant? Maybe when he was wondering if he should do a deal with Under Armour but after that was done there was no indication that he was even sniffing Washington.
Portland Trail Blazers’ and Oakland native Damian Lillard is regularly on Twitter and regularly responds to questions from fans. And because the aforementioned complex is a thing and Lillard is an Oakland native, somebody asked if he could, would he join the Golden State Warriors. His answer was short and sweet.

Honestly what did you expect him to say? “Hell Yea!”. Of course not, he’s happy in Portland, his team is still legitimate and he’s the leader of said team. He wouldn’t be getting buckets in Golden State like he would in Portland. It’s clear that his hometown is just that to him, he doesn’t feel any obligation to “go home”.
