Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers got swiftly knocked out of the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, they ran into the buzz saw that is the Golden State Warriors and the Hamptons five. This did not stop the team from continuing a now two year tradition that started with a surprising mentor
According to Jason Quick of Csnw.com, Chris Kaman was appalled three years ago when he learned the players did not give up their playoff bonuses to team staff. He implored Lillard to do this next time he led the Blazers to the playoffs. So, the last two playoff appearances have created a nice little bonus for the little known members of the team.
“We divide our playoff shares to give to the people who we work so closely with because they spend as much time away from their families as we do, and they are just about as invested as we are,’’ Lillard said after the season. “They also do as much as possible to make our lives easier, even if it makes theirs more difficult – all while making far less. So it’s a further way of showing appreciation beyond a thank your or a handshake.”
Damian Lillard’s star power on the court and unselfishness off it led to him receiving the Magic Johnson award this season after being nominated for an astonishing 3rd time. The award is given to players who best encapsulates excellence on the court and cooperation with the media.
Damian Lillard is a great player with a young team and plenty of potential. His personality should only heighten hopes in Portland.
