The Dallas Mavericks finally agree with an outside player in the form of a 2-year, $6.2 million deal with Sterling Brown. Although he lacks the star power Dallas craved in the past, it’s a value signing with low risks. Again, Marc Stein reports the full deal:
Sterling Brown is signing a two-year, $6.2 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, says his agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports

Considering the available cap space left following Tim Hardaway Jr’s deal, it’s vital for the duration of free agency for Nico Harrison to sign players to quality contracts such as this one. It’s worth mentioning Brown has experience playing on a Jason Kidd-coached team. This could help the team chemistry as they continue to build with Luka.

His size and shooting ability, along with the actual salary number, renders the signing sensible. Brown played 51 games with the Houston Rockets last season. Although the 2020-2021 season was of no consequence, Brown averaged 42 percent from distance. Again, not a home run, but a value signing to polish the dullness of the bench.
The Dallas Mavericks don’t seem to want to wait around like in past seasons. Harrison read the tea leaves, which indicated targeted players had other plans, and responded accordingly. There are more potential moves for Dallas to pursue in the coming days; within the trade market specifically.
