A former Valparaiso alum, Broekhoff has been playing in Europe since 2013. He spent his first two seasons as a pro in Turkey, playing for Besiktas, and then he joined Russian side Lokomotiv Kuban where he spent the last three years. Thanks to his great performances in Russia and VTB League, Broekhoff has quickly become one of the most appreciated wings in the European market. A deadly 3-point shooter (he shot 50 percent from 3-point in this season of Eurocup) and a solid defender on the perimeter, Ryan Broekhoff had a lot of market in Europe and was followed by a couple of Euroleague teams such as Anadolu Efes and Barcelona, a source told Def Pen Hoops.
But NBA scouts were watching him throughout all the season, as a report from International journalist David Pick noticed back in February. During this season with Lokomotiv Kuban, Broekhoff averaged 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in Eurocup. In his career, Ryan Broekhoff has also represented in his NT during the 2014 FIBA World Cup and in the 2016 Olympics Games.
The Dallas Mavericks are relatively thin on the wing side, so the addition of Broekhoff could definitely be a smart move.
