The Miami Marlins firesale continues to roll as they ship out players they once hoped could help them in a playoff push. Earlier this week they sent Mat Latos and Michael Morse out of South Beach and now it appears they will be sending another starting pitcher.
Dan Haren, who will be joining his fifth team in the last four years, has been sent from the Marlins to the Chicago Cubs for some prospects.

After watching the big fish go to other teams, the Cubs settled for a rent-a-Marlin at the trade deadline and acquired veteran starter Dan Haren in a trade from Miami on Friday near the trade deadline, according to a source.

Haren, a three-time All-Star, is 7-7 with a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts for the Marlins this season. The 13-year MLB veteran is scheduled to make $10.2 million this year, putting the Cubs’ prorated responsibility at about $3 million, which is just about what the Cubs had left to spend.
The impact of acquiring the 34-year-old former ace is unclear for the Cubs. They are only 2 games out of the final wild card spot but with other teams like the New York Mets, San Fransisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates all making moves to help them chase for the wild card or possibly the division, the Cubs had to do something to continue their playoff push.
