It’s been three years since Michael B. Jordan stepped into the role of Adonis Creed under the direction of Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler. After much waiting and anticipation, Jordan is back as Creed under the direction of a new director by the name of Steve Caple Jr. With Stallone by his side once again, the film’s sequel is sure to be a blockbuster hit.
Earlier this fall, fans got their first look at the new film when MGM unleashed the first trailer for the film’s sequel. In the relatively long trailer, fans got a sneak peak at what looks to be the cinematic fight of the century, Creed vs. Drago II. That’s right! The film’s sequel has long been rumored to be about Creed avenging the death of his father by fighting the son of the man that killed him. The film’s first trailer all but confirmed that the new Hollywood smash would focus on that fight.
Today, MGM unleashed a new behind the scenes look at what the fight would entail. In the new video, Stallone, Creed and more talk about what the fight will mean in the context of the new movie. Jordan touches on the fight by saying, “Bringing back Ivan Dragon and his son, Viktor, with their history and animosity made it more intense.” Stallone later commented on the fight by saying that it was important for his character, Rocky, because it was the “darkest moment in his life”.
Also, the Drago family also gives their insight into the plot. Florian Munteanu, who plays Drago’s son, says, “The history makes it easy to make this match-up. It’s his big chance. It’s not about Creed. It’s about him.” Director, Steve Caple Jr., also adds, “Ivan Drago is an iconic character for destroying one of our other iconic character, Apollo Creed. It was really cool to revive him in a way that felt fresh and new.”
