Turner Sports’ veteran reporter Craig Sager went into chemotherapy at a Cancer Center in Houston this summer. Sager was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014. After appearing to have beaten it and making his return to TNT in March of this year, the cancer returned later in the month.
On July 17, Sager underwent a successful bone marrow transplant. Talking to a Houston TV news station, Sager is optimistic about making his return to the NBA sidelines this upcoming season, and then some:
“I said, ‘The NBA season starts Oct. 27, what are my chances?’ He goes, ‘Oh they’re good!'” the elder Sager said of the conversation he had with his MD Anderson doctor.
“I said one more, ‘What about the Olympics next summer in Rio?’ He said, ‘No brainer! I said yes! Yes!'”
Sager, 64, is said to have lost about 50 pounds from his treatment and has lost his hair. Even so, his expectations and spirits are seemingly high, if not only because he’s excited to do what he loves again.
