Sen. Cory Booker is projected to be re-elected as Senator for the state of New Jersey. Booker was believed to be a heavy favorite against Republican challenger Rik Mehta.
Booker’s campaign was largely propelled by his fundraising prowess. He brought nearly $4 million to Mehta’s $18,000.
The New Jersey resident returns to the Senate after a failed presidential campaign. After delivering remarks at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, he was thought to be a political contender. However, he failed to emerge as a top candidate among a crowded field that included Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg among others.
Booker will remain locked in to the events of the night as his close friend, Sen. Kamala Harris seeks to become the first Black woman to be elected Vice President of the United States.
