Chargers offensive lineman Corey Liuget donated $10,000 to the Majority Stoneman Douglas High School football team. The donation is in honor of the school’s late football coach Aaron Feis, who was killed trying to protect students during the shooting just under a month ago.

The scholarship will be awarded to a member of the football team who has a big heart, a great work ethic, great character, put the team and others before themselves, be generous, have at least 2.5 GPA and graduate in the top half of his class.
Liuget talked to the players and also worked out with the team. He talked about he understood the close relationship that the players had with the late coach Feis, as he still has a strong relationship with his high school coaches.
“I have high school coaches that I hold dearly to me and they made a huge impact in my life. So coming out here and remembering coach Feis and the sacrifice he made to me is everything.”
Coach Feis also served as a security guard for the school. When the shooting began, he rushed towards the gunfire and jumped between a student and the gunman. Feis was one of 17 people killed in the shooting.
The shooting was a major travesty that is still affecting the community. Coach Feis will be remembered by everyone as a great man and a hero. Junior defensive lineman Charlie Rothkopf said:
“He was the best man you could ever ask for. He was sweet, would make you laugh when you want. If you had a bad day, you could go talk to him… We need to live like he did. Whenever it was time to step up — he stepped up. That’s what we’re all trying to follow.”
