Brewer was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers after they agreed to a buyout Wednesday. He was considered to have been a great mentor for the young Laker roster during the course of the season.
Brewer will be joining his former coach with the Florida Gators, Billy Donovan. Brewer was a starter for coach Donovan during there back-to-back NCAA championship stint in 2006 and 2007.
At the age 31, Brewer gives the Thunder a veteran wing presence off the bench, which would aid the team after losing shooting guard Andre Roberson to a season-ending injury. Roberson, unfortunately, suffered a ruptured left patellar tendon on Jan 28.
Coach Luke Walton praised Brewer for his professionalism when playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Whether he is frustrated by his playing time or not, he is on the sideline enjoying the young players,” Walton said. “An absolutely great, great teammate.”
Corey Brewer also had a stretch of playing 317 straight games, which was the longest stretch of games played in the NBA before it ended earlier this year.
