As a freshman, Torin Dorn led Charlotte with 12 points per game, while also tallying 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Now, the Conference-USA freshman of the year will head off to NC State so he can compete in the ACC while also remaining close to home.
Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried is known for taking transfers and getting them ready for ACC competition. Most notably Trevor Lacey, a transfer from Alabama, came to NC State and was named to Second-team All-ACC by the media and Third-team All-ACC by the coaches in 2015. The Wolfpack have also added transfers Ralston Turner, Alex Johnson, and Terry Henderson while Gottfried has been at the helm.
To be able to compete with bigger, faster, and stronger players than he saw in Conference-USA, Dorn will be following a plan created by himself and Gottfried. This will help Dorn get ready for the higher level of competition he will be seeing every night that goes along with his transfer.

“I liked the plan Coach Gottfried laid out for me in terms of my development and my role in the program going forward,” Dorn said.
“I’ll just approach it as a year to get better, become more mature and improve my weaknesses,” he said. “I have a detailed plan of what I want to improve and it’s just attack that every day and compete every day against ACC talent. When the year’s up, I’ll be ready to play.”
Dorn will sit out the upcoming year, but will still have three years of eligibility left once the season ends. Sitting out a year after transferring is tough for all players, but really benefits them to be ready for a much higher level of competitions. Hopefully for NC State, Dorn will be ready for the challenge for the 2016-2017 season.
