The Colts are hoping undrafted signed Josh Ferguson channels his inner Thomas Rawls and surprises the league. Ferguson was considered a top tier receiver out of the back field that received draft consideration as early as the fourth round, per Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. Eventually the two sides agreed to a $10,000 signing bonus and a total $35,000 in guarantees (astronomically high numbers for an undrafted player).
“It’s just in shorts, but he looks really good,” coach Chuck Pagano said last week as the Colts wrapped up minicamp. “He’s smart. He picks things up in a hurry. He’s very, very athletic. He’s a great receiver out of the back field. We can split him wide, we can displace him formationally. He’s a mismatch out in space. He’s got juice. He can go. He’s got great vision.”
Currently the runningback depth chart includes Frank Gore, Jordan Todman, Tyler Varga, and Trey Williams. When I watch Ferguson during the East-West game he sort of looked like a Dion Lewis type of player at best case scenario. With limited depth behind Gore it appears he will absolutely get a chance to shine in Indy.
