In the wake of the injury to Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, reps for Colin Kaepernick reached out to the Titans, according to Jason La Canfora. The attempt was met with a stiff arm from the Titans, however. And no such audition took place.
In an article for CBS Sports, La Canfora wrote the following:
Tennessee officials were contacted and made aware of Kaepernick’s fitness level, his regimen and his desire to work out for the team, but sources said the matter was unable to advance. Kaepernick’s agents have been diligent about contacting teams whenever any quarterback injuries have occurred, but as of yet no team has been willing to let the former Super Bowl quarterback work out for them.
Instead, the Titans chose to work out a group of quarterbacks that included T.J. Yates, Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin, and Brandon Weeden. Of that group, Tennessee decided to ink Weeden to a deal.
While the team has been pretty quiet about Mariota’s timeline, he is expected to miss more than just Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Weeden now assumes the role of backup quarterback for Tennessee, who will start Matt Cassel in place of Mariota.
Titans offense was as bad as it could get Sunday. Their 16-10 loss to the Dolphins showed just how bad life without Marcus Mariota is.

As soon as the Titans QB went down, rumors about who might get signed (and whether or not Kaepernick’s name would come up) began circulating. However, it was not known until today that it was Kaepernick’s side that reached out to the Titans. That would seem to answer any questions as to whether or not Kaepernick still had a desire to play in the NFL.

Kaepernick would seem like a good fit for the Titans as a replacement. Tennessee has built an offense around the mobile Mariota, and Kaepernick’s abilities mirror those of Mariota closely. Instead, the quarterback position for the Titans will be manned by the more flat-footed Cassel and/or Weeden. As so, America’s most public reality soap opera continues as Colin Kaepernick and his camp lobbies to find a new team.
