The Pelicans have been nothing short of a disappointment since their last Playoff appearance, where they were swept 4-0 by the Warriors back in 2015.
A surplus of bad luck, injuries, staff and player changes have halted their temporary success, preventing them from regaining their status as a competitive team in the Western Conference. Despite having a perennial All-Star in Anthony Davis, who happens to be averaging an impressive 31.3 points per game this season, the Pelicans are still in the midst of a downright embarrassing time period.
They are a league-worst 1-9 through 10 games this season, and it appears things aren’t getting better anytime soon.
Alvin Gentry, head coach of the team who was hired just 18 months ago, appears to be on the hot seat:
Several NBA coaches/GMs say Alvin Gentry’s coaching seat on fire in New Orleans. May be just matter of weeks, if not days, they believe.

With New Orleans’ only bright spot being Anthony Davis at the moment, it’s easy to see why fans, players, and even team officials are on edge.
His teammates understand that others need to step up and help, as Solomon Hill stated earlier in the week. But this isn’t just one issue: It’s a series of problems stemming from a combination of bad luck and poor roster execution over the years.
Anthony Davis needs support, but since coming into the league, has struggled to find suitable commodities around him on the hardwood. Although he publicly claims New Orleans will be his permanent home, one has to wonder just how much longer he can put up with the franchise’s problems.
With Alvin Gentry’s job status now in sudden turmoil, New Orleans fans, buckle up; This doesn’t seem to be getting any better. For this mess should not be blamed on a coach, the same coach that worked under Steve Kerr on the 2015 NBA champion Golden State Warriors last spring.
