Clubhouse is looking to reshape the way its users interact with one another. Earlier this week, the social media platform announced that it would introduce its “Houses” feature. In short, the newly installed feature will allow users to curate rooms and discussions through trusted friends and colleagues.
“Think of Houses as private hallways just for your favorite people,” the company stated, according to Tech Crunch.
“You can drop in anytime, hop from room to room, catch up with friends, and meet their friends. Houses usually have regular meetup times, and everyone gets to nominate a few friends, so the House grows through people you trust. Or, you can keep it closed if you like — it’s fun either way.”
Users can continue to use the app as is and join public rooms as they please. Those who wish to start their own house with friends must sign-up through Clubhouse.
In a series of tweets, Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison equated the new feature to private dinner parties or house parties with friends as opposed to going out to a club or lounge.
“To evolve Clubhouse, we’re breaking it up. The new graph structure will allow any person, group, or community to create its own House — with its own personality, culture and content moderation rules — where members can meet up regularly, talk, and hop from room to room,” Davison tweeted.
“House member lists will be public, because it’s more fun that way. Many rooms on Clubhouse will still be public too, and everyone will be able to explore the public hallways, discovering new people and cultures from around the world. Only the House rooms will be private.”
