The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly signed guard Rodney McGruder according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. McGruder was signed by the Clippers last season after being waived by the Miami Heat towards the end of the season. The contract is for 3-years and $15 million according to an ESPN report.

As the Clippers wait for the decision of Kawhi Leonard, a roster still needs to be filled out. The team has already signed defensive-stalwart and bundle of energy Patrick Beverley back to a squad who unexpectedly made the playoffs. McGruder is a similar grind-it-out type of player who possesses the ability to defend the perimeter, a highly sought after skill in today’s NBA.
The Heat cut McGruder for salary cap reasons last year, but the Clippers acquired him and his Bird rights – the ability to sign a player and go above the salary cap. This signing does not inhibit the potential signing of Kawhi Leonard for that reason.
The 27-year-old averaged 7.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game last season.
