A D-League standout at age 34? Why Not? That’s exactly what Dahntay Jone must have been thinking when he was released by the Utah Jazz in training camp and was picked up by the Fort Way Mad Ants.
Jones, 34, had been playing for the Mad Ants, averaging 13.8 points on 50 % shooting. Jones has played 10 years in the NBA, including 6 different stops with the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. Los Angeles Clippers are now number 7.
The following from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
The Los Angeles Clippers plan to sign free-agent guard Dahntay Jones to a 10-day contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Clippers are determined to improve their bench and Jones will get an opportunity to make an impact. The Clippers are still working on completing a trade with the Boston Celtics to bring guard Austin Rivers, the son of Clippers president and coach Doc Rivers, to Los Angeles.
Jones is expected to join the team tonight before the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Portland Trail Blazers. He’ll try to help address some issues the Clippers have had with some reserves on the wing and perimeter scoring.
His former teammate on the Duke Blue Devils, J.J. Redick, took to twitter to welcome him to the team.
“@JJRedick: @AdamComarow @dahntay1 actually we were on the same team in 03” yessir
