Two NFL franchises recently changed cities destroying millions of people’s love for their team in exchange for millions of dollars. It looks like an NBA team is looking to change cities as well, except this move won’t alter who they are. According to Nathan Fenno and Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Clippers may be eyeing a move to Inglewood.
Representatives of Steve Ballmer and Stan Kroenke, two of the richest owners in professional sports, have had multiple discussions about the Clippers joining the Rams and Chargers in the sports and entertainment district Kroenke is building in Inglewood.
This is an interesting idea for a few reasons, the first being that if the Los Angeles Clippers were to hypothetically join those NFL behemoths one would infer they would help pay for the stadium. The second is that the Clippers lease at Staples Center goes until 2024. The third and final being the discussions have reportedly also been about putting a stadium across from the football stadium or in the exact same plot of land.
Ballmer has apparently already expressed interest in having a stadium separate from the Los Angeles Lakers. Which makes sense as the Clippers are still very much viewed as the Lakers little brother. Moving out and showing independence is how most show their maturation, so do not rule this out.
