Clippers Close To Buying Out Jordan Farmar’s Contract
The Los Angeles Clippers traded for their head coach’s son, Austin Rivers, on Thursday in a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics. Now, according to Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears, the Clippers are nearing a buyout on back up point guard Jordan Farmar.
The Clippers found Farmar expendable after acquiring guard Austin Rivers, the son of Clippers president and coach Doc Rivers, from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade on Thursday. Farmer averaged 4.6 points on 38.6 percent shooting from field and 1.9 assists in 14.7 minutes per game for the Clippers this season.
Farmer signed a two-year, $4.2 million deal last offseason with a player option in the second season paying $2.1 million.
Parting ways with Farmar makes the back up guard duties now interestingly up for grabs for Rivers. The Clippers are also reported as having interest in Nate Robinson, along with several other teams. Although Doc Rivers’ son has yet to make his presence felt in his short career, the Clippers do at least get younger and a little more athletic in that spot. Adding Robinson would be more for desperation offense purposes. With Farmar almost out, that roster spot will be open.
