According to Chris Haynes from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavaliers used the opening hours of free agency to reach out to veteran Tayshaun Prince. It was clear that the Cleveland Cavaliers desperately needed to find some players to fill gaping holes on their roster in order to improve and it seems that they are wasting no time in addressing those concerns.
“In an effort to shore up wing depth, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached out to the representatives of free agent small forward Tayshaun Prince, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group.”
Prince, 35, played for Memphis, Boston, and Detroit last season and averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and shot 46 percent from long distance. When you really consider it, Prince and the Cavs do make sense together since he already brings a championship pedigree with him that LeBron James can use as he molds a more battle ready team for the playoffs. This Cavaliers team is now battle tested, but they still need guidance in difficult situations throughout the course of the playoffs.
The 6-9 forward is still a defensive presence on the perimeter and would serve as a replacement to Shawn Marion who never made an impact as a defensive anchor on the court in his final season in the league. Not to mention that he would definitely be an upgrade over Brendan Haywood, Mike Miller, James Jones, and Kendrick Perkins who the Cavs currently have taking up space on their roster.
King James can only do so much on his lonesome, and bringing in a veteran voice like Tayshaun Prince who can help fill a whole on the wing is something the Cavaliers will look to use to their advantage. If Cleveland can make this work, it would be a very good move.
