Can the Cleveland Cavaliers get any better? It seems that they can. It’s clear that the Cavs organization simply look at the cap limitations, scrunch it up into a ball and swish that into the bin. This year they’re going all in. We’ve never seen a team simply throw money at everything in order to get a ring.
They have been so close, the whole city of Cleveland have come so close to a championship, the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers are simply a bridesmaid and never the bride. It’s fact. But this year they’re fully going for it. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, they’re considering giving the Nets a lifeline and trading for Joe Johnson.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are considering trading for Brooklyn Nets star Joe Johnson with their Brendan Haywood contract chip, sources told ESPN.com.
The Nets are actively looking to move Johnson to reduce their tax burden this upcoming season as they are facing paying the repeater tax, which would be the most punitive luxury penalty in league history.
One possible option for the Cavs would be sending big man Anderson Varejao to the Nets in such a deal. Varejao will make $9.6 million this upcoming season as part of an extension he signed last year. Varejao is coming off of a ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered last December but is on track to return by the start of the season.
Now think about it. Ditch Varejao, ditch Haywood. The Cavs give a wink to David West saying “look at all this space we have, perfect for you to put in 10-15 minutes?”
The Cavs think they’re slick. I see what they’re doing. Hope they don’t do it to be honest.
