Claressa Shields is not only looking to knockout the competition inside of the ring, but she’s also looking to win big outside of the squared circle of the truth. Ahead of her debut in the heavyweight division, the two-time Olympic Gold medalist has launched her very own business, T-Rex Promotions. The promotional imprint will strive to “help female boxers, in particular, find opportunities inside the ring.”
“It was important to start my own promotional company because it adds to boxing and helps provide a different view from my lens as a female athlete and business woman,” Shields said.
“The fighters on my roster, and future fighters, are hand-picked by me. I have a great eye for elite talent and what it takes to be a champion and build future champions.”
Shields is working with her longtime promoter, Dmitriy Salita, to begin her latest endeavor. Together, they’ll put on a show as Shields challenges WBC Heavyweight Champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse on Saturday, July 27. Not only will Shields headline the event, but she’ll also put a spotlight on undefeated super lightweight contender Samantha Worthington, the first fighter signed to T-Rex Promotions.
Samantha was Claressa’s teammate in the amateurs and is now a world-rated, undefeated professional,” Salita said.
“This marks a great beginning for Claressa on the business side of the sport, and I look forward to collaborating with her. Claressa has opened the door of opportunity for many and advanced the cause of equality in women’s sports. Besides being a champion in the ring, that mission has always been Claressa’s goal.”
Worthington will fight Edina Kiss on the Shields-Lepage-Joanisse undercard at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
