ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, John Elway and the Denver Broncos have notified running back C.J. Anderson that they will match the 4-year, $18 million deal offered originally by the Miami Dolphins, in effort to keep Anderson in Denver.
Anderson ended the 2015 season on a high note for the second consecutive year, and was a key part of the Broncos offense down the stretch of games during the postseason. After receiving a low end tender from Denver, Anderson was ready to reunite with Head Coach Adam Gase in Miami, who was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos when Anderson put up best career high numbers. Anderson’s new deal brings new expectations heading into next season and Elway and the Broncos are hoping to see Anderson take his game to the next level.
Saturday, Elway traded for Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2017 7th round conditional pick. Even though Sanchez isn’t a franchise quarterback, Elway had to address the position and bring in a short term answer for the time. But Elway didn’t hand the starting job to Sanchez just yet and told him the team wasn’t done looking to add Quarterbacks, as talks continue with San Fransisco for Colin Kaepernick.
With Brock Osweiler, Malik Jackson, and Danny Trevathan all departing to new teams, Elway had to bring back some personnel that was apart of that championship run last season. With Anderson staying in the Mile High City and as the search continues for a quarterback, its evident that the Broncos aren’t done acquiring talent.
