The nation’s third largest movie theater chain, Cinemark, has announced that it will shut down its operations indefinitely. This move will close nearly 350 theaters across North America.
“Through these absolutely unprecedented and evolving times, one thing will not change, and that is Cinemark’s dedication to its team members and moviegoers,” Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi said.
“The decision to close our U.S. theatres was incredibly tough, but we know it is the right thing to do as global Coronavirus concerns continue to escalate. We will closely monitor recommendations of national and local governmental health organizations and look forward to inviting everyone to once again enjoy experiencing the movies with Cinemark,” he added.
Joining Cinemark, Regal and AMC have announced that they will close their theaters as well. Adding on, both New York and Los Angeles have closed movie theaters across their respective cities as well. To top it all off, a number of movie studios have pulled the releases of the year’s most highly anticipated films.
Cinemark has not identified a projected return date at this moment.
