When the Houston Rockets acquired Chris Paul last summer, many were skeptical of the deal given that Paul was going to hit free agency in the summer of 2018. But the ‘wink-wink’ deal many assumed happened behind-the-scenes between Paul and the Rockets came through at the end of the day.
Rockets agreed to a four-year, $160 million deal with Chris Paul.
Following comes from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Paul remaining with the Rockets was undoubtedly Houston’s number one goal heading into the offseason. They wanted to be sure their gamble last summer will pay off with one more contract for Paul, which will presumably be his last big deal in the NBA.
It is a gamble for the Rockets to give a long-term, big money deal to a point guard who will see the contract expire in his last 30’s but it’s a gamble Houston needs to take if they want to be a contender during James Harden’s prime. They also might be able to convince some other veterans to come and join them on cheaper contracts and continue to improve a roster that pushed the Golden State Warriors to the limits in the 2018 Western Conference Finals.
