The greatest basketball player in school history maybe on his way back.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein is reporting that St. John’s has offered their head coaching position to the schools all time leading scorer, Chris Mullin. Rothstein is also reporting that Mullin will indeed accept the offer to lead his alma mater.
From Rothstein:
“The two sides were hammering out final details on a contract on Sunday that would make Mullin the successor to Steve Lavin, who was fired on Friday after five years at the school,” Rothstein wrote. “Barring a last-minute snag in the negotiations, the administration is hoping to have a press conference Tuesday or Wednesday.”
Mullin, who has no coaching experience, is an advisor for the Sacramento Kings and former General Manager for the Golden State Warriors.
Mullin, who is originally from Brooklyn, was a first-team All-American at the Queens school and led the Redstorm to the 1985 Final Four, the second one in school history.
